Vienna leads the way in numerous international studies and city rankings – in categories such as quality of life, infrastructure, culture, safety and innovation. The benefits of all these advantages are felt by visitors and residents alike.
A quality of life survey conducted in 231 major cities worldwide by international consultants Mercer saw Vienna claim first place for the tenth time in a row in 2019. Analysis of 140 cities worldwide conducted by the Economist Intelligence Unit came to the same conclusion, with Vienna awarded first place in 2019 for the second year in succession. The Smart City Index, compiled by respected consultancy Roland Berger based on the performance of 87 cities, ranked the Austrian capital first in 2019, as in 2018. And Monocle magazine’s Most Liveable Cities Index awarded Vienna fifth place behind Zurich, Tokyo, Munich and Copenhagen.
